Smoothie Blues

I have a confession to make, I have been buying most of my smoothies a Jamba Juice, yes I know this week was supposed to be a week of creating smoothies that would kick start spring, but I have not been in the mood to get creative in the kitchen. I think I am still shell shock from my midterms I forgot how to be creative. I am going to try and do smoothies twice a week next week. This means more smoothie recipes yay!!!

This smoothie was not very good I am trying to get more protein in my diet; and well let’s just say it was more of an eggy slushy, I won’t let you suffer from this horrendous drink by providing the recipe. I thought the colors were amazing if my hand was steady, however I did drink it though.

Not another blueberry smoothie, but I just can’t help myself I am in love with blue berries I would love to eat the whole bag but I am in know mood for brain freeze. I just got home from class and wanted a quick snack that would last me three hours while I hit the books, so I added oats to the bowl.

Spring Shakeup

Savy naturalista, Naturalista Well Spring is here and I already have summer on the brain especially with the sun setting later every day. I am excited that midterms are out of the way that all I can think about now are smoothies. It seems everyone starts the beginning of the year with smoothie challenges; but not me it was cold as ice and I was still in the mood for some good ole comfort. Now that it is a little warmer I decided that I am going to replace one of my meals with a smoothie for a week. This was my attempt at a green smoothie but of course it did not come out looking green, like all the beautiful smoothies that I see on pinterest. That darn lettuce, am I the only one who puts lettuce in there smoothies instead of spinach? I also used my food processor (yes I go a new one) to make my smoothies instead of a blender. I am trying so hard not to accumulate so many kitchen appliances so for now I will hold off on a blender.

I have finally gotten done with my study session so dinner was late no light so I could not get a pic. I am at a much better place with my diet and I am hoping to finally be at a size that I am ok with… I have struggled with weight for years but with proper education of nutrition last year, I can say it is easier for me to estimate a number of calories I eat a day without even counting… I am busy, busy, and super busy I cannot wait to be done with midterms this week so I can get in the groove of things… I have been obsessed with smoothies lately I guess the warm weather can do that to ya! It’s been in the 80’s!!! I am so loving it can’t wait for summer 110 baby 🙂

New Year Challenges

Savy Naturalista, Naturalista I know I wrote about staying on track with one of my goals for the New Year yesterday, and so far so good. I know most of us give up by the 3rd week on are resolutions that’s why if we make them goals we will defiantly achieve one if not all. I also realized that I did not write my 7th goal so I will talk about that goal apparently I forgot. I am trying to stay on track but sometimes I have a slip up every now and then. It is easy to just give up, but I believe that if I made it through the holidays I can make it through the rest of the year in one peace. Spring is almost here and I am thinking about doing another smoothie challenge, since the cravings for comfort food will disappear and we need a jump start to get us prepared for summer. We have 143 days to summer let’s throw away the spandex so we can wear all the lovely clothing that we have always wanted to wear.

Pumpkin Smoothie

Today is official the last day of my 30 day smoothie challenge and I enjoyed every moment of it. I can tell you I lost 5 pounds of fat along the way, and I am happy to say that I have gained a love for fruits and veggies that I have never had before. I plan on doing more challenges with fruits and veggies. One of my main reasons for doing a 30 day smoothie challenge I wanted to see if I could discipline myself and actually stick to good quality food regarding my health. I am happy to say that I was able to stick to it with no problems, and looking to brighter days when it comes to making my breakfast and meals in a healthy way. Since fall is here it would not be right if I did not end my last smoothie without a pumpkin smoothie.

Pumpkin Smoothie, Smoothie Recipe, Smoothie Challenge

Pumpkin Smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup pumpkin puree, 1 cup almond milk, ¾ cup oatmeal. Blend to perfection and enjoy with a straw.

Young Thai Coconut Smoothie

Well I am happy to say that I am able to wear large shirts again which makes me excited. I was wearing XL and making my way to double XL but I guess I have reversed that trend. The shirt looks pretty nice on me but not on my arms I never understand why in certain areas it is harder to loose fat. I have major problems with fat in my thigh areas and my arms but I am not going to give up or complaint, because I am just so happy that I can actually fit into a large shirt and it is pretty loose.

Young Thai Coconut Smoothie, Smoothie Challenge

I have been drinking a lot of coconut water lately so I have so much coconut meat and nothing to do with it I decided to put it in my smoothie today. This smoothies was very creamy and had a buttery taste this smoothie would make great porridge. Young Thai Coconut Smoothie: ¾ cup young thai coconut meat, 1 cup almond milk unsweetened, ¾ cup oatmeal, a pinch of sugar, and pineapple for topping. Serve in a bowl and enjoy.

Chocolate Tropical Smoothie

Hello Naturalista’s, I have some really good news I got a lovely compliment at work; I was told that I look thinner. It was a shock because I am not thin at all so for someone to tell me I look thinner blew my mind but those were her exact words. The funny thing about losing weight is the person who is losing never notices; but it takes the people around you to tell you that you are losing; before you finally realized oh wow I am doing something right. I am not one that fishes for compliments neither do I know how to receive them, so when she gave me such a lovely compliment I kind of felt like I was in a corner and attention was being drawn to me. Instead of brushing it off I should have said thank you I am trying to loose but let’s just say I was like a hermit crab. I am going to half to make note to work on my receiving compliment skills.

Chocolate Tropical Smoothie

I have been craving chocolate lately so this smoothie was much needed for breakfast and of course I paired it with some pumpkin bread that I bought from a vegan bakery. Chocolate Tropical Smoothie: 2 frozen bananas, 1 cup pineapple, 1 tbsp. coco powder, and 1 cup unsweetened almond milk. I finally got my chocolate fixed.

Persimmon Smoothie

Orange colors are in and they are here to stay until the weather warms up a bit. Orange is a great fall color bright lovely and makes you smile when you see orange. That’s what I did when I made this smoothie; I fell in love with the color and had a bright smile on my face. Persimmons are a lovely delicious fruit that I wish was available all year round but unfortunately it is one of those scared fall fruits that I get to enjoy once a year. I have so many in my fridge and they never last because they are one of my favorite fruits. When I first met this lovely fruit I was turn off by its odd shape, rough skin, and funny top, but I mustard up the courage to try it. Once I peeled beyond the layers of skin and bit into the juicy flesh I was hooked. This smoothie is dedicated to one of my favorite fall fruit The Persimmon.
Persimmon Smoothie

Persimmon Smoothie: 2 persimmons, 1 banana, ½ cup oatmeal, ½ cup unsweetened almond milk. This is a lovely, sweet, and delightful smoothie.

Banana Apple Smoothie

I have been obsessed with Korean dramas lately I mean I am super obsessed. Once I am home from work and I am done studying I like to sit and watch them until it is time to go to bed. Country boy assumes that I am watching soaps like days of our lives just in a different language. I wouldn’t take it that far but they can be very addicting especially on the weekends when everyone loves to watch television. If I don’t set a schedule I can literally sit and watch them for about 6 hours. I am watching a really good one right now called 49 days, and I am almost to the end well I am in the middle and have cried twice. I will keep you guys up dated on what happens. I guess you can say that Korean dramas have become my guilty pleasure. If you would like to watch 49 days the show is on hulu for free or drama fever.com which will send you to hulu for free. If you do not mind subtitles you will be hooked as well.

Banana Apple Smoothie

Today has marked five more days left of my 30 day smoothie challenge and I made an apple banana smoothie with a hint of pineapple. It is early in the morning and I have already gotten 2.5 serving of fruit from just one smoothie. Apple Mango Smoothie: ¾ cup apple sauce unsweetened, ½ cup pineapple, 1 large banana, and ½ cup of oatmeal. I can tell you after drinking this smoothie this morning I am very full.
