Summer is approaching faster than I thought, with it being so warm out I really wanted something sweet that had strawberries in it. I know strawberry season is not here yet but the weather is defiantly calling for me to eat a big bowl; mine are frozen so I would have some serious brain freeze, if I ever decided to take on that many frozen strawberries at once. I guess I could wait for them to thaw but I am very impatient (I am working on it) person, so I would probably try to rush the process and end up with a catastrophe. I need strawberries in my life today; the weather is perfect for it since I see so many kids with ice cream cones. I would love a drink that taste like a milkshake but looks like a smoothie. We can call it a smoothie-shake and that would be the end of the controversy over “what is the difference between shakes and smoothies “(I still have no clue). Strawberry milkshakes sound great right about now but a smoothie seems healthier so let’s combine the two and get to the recipe…
2 cup Frozen Strawberry
2 cup Soy Milk
2 (6oz) container strawberry yogurt
1tsp of sugar, optional
Directions: Place strawberries, yogurt, and sugar in blender (I used my food processor) allow to blend and slowly pour in milk and let puree. Note: The Smoothie-Shake will be extra thick like ice cream you may need a spoon, I did not use any sweetener but if you have a major sweet tooth you can use more sugar or any sweetener of your choice (stevia works well).
When trying to lose weight and keep it off let’s just face it! It really is all about the food, that is why I really wanted to figure out if the sweet potato chips I ate yesterday were fried or not. After hours of searching and more searching (well it didn’t take me that long but I did get side tracked). I finally found out the sweet potato chips were fried… I should have known since the calorie count was pretty high but I was blindsided by my false hope. I am so mad at those fried sweet potato chips from yesterday; sneaky advertisers they really should put fried chips on the bag so all of the curious consumers can know. I guess they clearly don’t care about letting us know those important details.
I decided that after seeing this lovely post and the fried sweet potato chips from yesterday that I finished off today, that it is time to purchase a dehydrator. I am a lover of quick snacks but if I could cut my cost in half, and not be tricked in to buying healthy snacks that say one thing but mean the other. Why not try making them myself and see what I can come up with (sweet potato chips anyone?). I am not saying I will be the next Betty Crocker (well not yet) of the healthy foods we eat, but it will be nice to keep calories low since I am trying to loose fat not gain it.
I am on a budget, but of course when you have a budget you tend to want everything that is never in your price range. I really would love an Excalibur I see all the raw and vegan foodies with one, and they come up with some amazing dishes that just make me drool but I don’t have Excalibur money. I still want a dehydrator so I am going to get one that will give me the same results but a fraction of the price. I really liked this dehydrator and the this one, but I am one of those people who will spend thirty minutes to an hour on one item before I actually buy it. I am thinking about the first one but there are so many I can’t decide. I hope I do not have this problem when it comes time to upgrade cameras…
Question of the day: Do you have a dehydrator if so which is your favorite brand?
I decided that since the cookies and candy canes have piled up at work; it was time for operation if you can’t be them then just join them. I literally mean let us all join in the festivities with great alternatives that are yummy and low in calories. I know it is the holidays and we do not want to feel left out with all the goodies in the air, but food can be fun to and healthy and I am learning that slowly. I decided that today I would bring mini ginger breakfast cookies to work and see if anyone would take them. I am hoping that everyone wants to eat at least one but who knows they may just look at them funny. I am going to put them in the break room anonymously and see if it is ago. They are low in calories , fat and sugar so I let’s see if at least some go missing, but if not I can eat them and join in all the casual Christmas holiday talks during lunch breaks.
Today I decided to have juice this morning I have been feeling a bit sluggish and I really wanted a pick me up. I rarely juice in the morning but since I have been waking up early I have extra time on my hands to get things done in the morning besides working out. I know that I have been so cold lately sometimes it is hard to get out of bed but I think it is worth it. I get to work out, get homework done, and make a nice veggie juice, instead of busting out the door with just a banana (which sometimes I do).
This juice has 4 carrots, 6 celery sticks, and 3 apples I love this juice it was yummy and I was able to drink it without holding my nose. Now if only there was a way to magically clean up this mess without me having to clean it up…
Hello Everyone! I hope you guys love water as much as I am trying to love it! Well as you may know water is something that you have to acquire a taste for, and well I am getting there. I am just having trouble going all the way 🙂 ; lately I have been flavoring my water with tea. I call it fusion water. It tastes way better then plain water. I sometimes add a little honey about one tablespoon for 3 liters that I drink for the day. I seem to love teas. I was at the mall and stopped buy a neat little tea store name Teavana. Has anyone ever heard of it? They had some nice samples I tried all the sugar free ones of course and I found two I loved. Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate and Apple Lemon Pomegranate. I am in love with the raspberry riot it tastes just like raspberry lemonade with a twist. The apple lemon not so much too much spice for me. I guess it’s a fall flavor; I will save it for fall and maybe I will love it. I can say this is a new way to make water a little more satisfying on the taste buds.
I know today is a day to eat, enjoy, and celebrate freedom. I have decided that I am not going to make anything high in calories or buy takeout. I am going to make a delicious low calorie meal that I can eat in moderation. So I made a plan for today. I would do the sides and my boyfriend would do the grilling. I hope he has a plan because it’s raining pretty hard right now. I was really worried about how difficult it would be for low calorie alternatives that I could enjoy and would be delicious to him also. I just decided to go for it. I am doing potato salad and a lemon tart for desert. This year it is just me and him, so I am keeping it light and simple. I love potato salad but mayo is so high in calories. I was looking to use regular mayo when I found out one cup of mayo is almost 1600 calories. I decided that was not the route I wanted to go. I was not going to use light mayo I mean flavor is what I want. I kept it natural and used one avocado which is 322 calories. I was happy about that. I didn’t want to use eggs for my lemon tart because I used eggs for my potato salad who needs all that cholesterol. Cream cheese is out because I have a dairy allergy besides cream cheese was very high in calories. I am keeping it in moderation so my main ingredient was tofu and cornstarch I was surprised how yummy and delicious the sides were.
. I don’t think he will be grilling today..
Rain on the fourth, in Arizona madness 🙂
Potato salad.. Avocado and mustard for the moist ingredients. Mmmm so yummy.
Lemon Tart. To get the yellow color I used turmeric. 😉
Lately just plain oatmeal is just so boring, so in celebration of oatmeal sensation week I had to post this one as my favorite. I only ate my oatmeal parfait twice this week. I have been eating mint chocolate oatmeal almost every day this week!!! It’s so delicious it curbs my appetite for chocolate. I love it just so much :). If there was a way I could make this into a snack and eat it all day I probably would. This is so tasty and who doesn’t love chocolate and mint; please don’t skip on the almond milk it makes it so creamy. If I could find away to make this in to a snack and take it every where I would 🙂
Not the finished product but I had to make sure all the coco was stir in well.
Mint Chocolate Oatmeal
½ cup of oatmeal
1 cup of almond milk (any liquid of your choice)
1 Tbsp. of powder coco
2 tsp. of peppermint extract
1 Tbsp. of honey
Directions: Add the oatmeal and coco together in a bowl; once you have done that add the almond milk and the peppermint extract stir it really well. Place it in the microwave for three minutes add the honey and enjoy :).
Finish product!!! In my belly you go :). Yum, Yum 🙂
